>>On August 2, 2021, AMA lost one of its frequent contributors to Park Pilot and Model Aviation magazines. Larry Kruse, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away at age 77 after battling cancer.
If you’ve ever read either magazine, chances are tht you have seen—and maybe even have built—some of Larry’s whimsical designs. His most recent published designs included the RM-1 Supersonic Fighter, which appeared in the May 2020 issue of Model Aviation, and the May Bee, featured in the Winter 2020 issue of Park Pilot.
In addition to the aforementioned magazines, Larry’s model airplane designs were published in Flying Models and Model Airplane News. He also wrote a “Free Flight Sport” column in Flying Models from 1982 to 2013.
He enjoyed attending and writing about aeromodeling events across the country, including the AMA Nats and Warbirds Over Texas. In his AMA History Project autobiography, Larry estimated that he had written more than 800 articles.
As a tribute to his legacy, we are republishing three of Larry’s most popular designs:
Consider building one of them in his memory.
