Heli-Max Novus FP
The Fixed-Pitch, intermediate Novus Helicopter | By Brandon Wright
|
The Heli-Max Novus FP is a nano-sized, full-function helicopter with a
fixed-pitch blade system. It's ready to fly when you open the box, and
the only extras needed are eight AA batteries.
The FP comes with a 3.7v 400mAh LiPo pack and an AC wall charger, and a
2.4Ghz radio system. The Novus FP is loaded with features only usually
found in much larger helicopters, including a rotor head and swash plate made
from CNC-machined aluminum to enhance durability and make the Novus much more
precise; it doesn’t have the usual flex that plastic parts would have.
The tiny servos are digital, and weigh a mere 3 grams each. Digital servos hold better and have much more
precise centering than standard analog servos, which translates to a
better-flying helicopter. The 2.4GHz RC
system has a nano receiver, and the transmitter has a power meter and separate trims
for each channel. The antenna is
positionable to your preference, and the transmitter feels very comfortable in
your hands.
The Novus FP has a gear driven tail rotor with a compact, high-efficiency
motor to deliver outstanding performance and hold a solid tail heading. The tail rotor system works very well. The tail and main rotor blades are plastic
and very durable, and a spare set of main blades is included.
The FP is a great little helicopter to fly around inside. The weather around here hasn’t been too great
lately, and my FP has gotten a lot of use over the last couple of weeks. I’ve flown much larger machines that didn’t
fly half as well as the Novus, and has proved itself to be an excellent
nano-sized helicopter. The controls
respond sharply and the tail holds solidly.
Flight times are great, and the machine has a ton of power.
The tail is carbon rod — for strength and to keep the tail rock solid in
flight. The tail rotor has the authority
to maneuver and pirouette, and the music-wire landing gear has enough flex to
keep from breaking and effectively cushion hard landings.
The durability of the Novus FP far exceeds anything you would expect from a
helicopter of its size. It has survived
several hard landings, and hitting a wall doesn’t seem to faze it much
either. I never even broke a blade.
The Novus FP really expands the capabilities of what you can do with a
small, fixed-pitch, indoor helicopter.
It’s loaded with features and flies great.
